Exciting Updates from Aerospace Village at DEFCON 2023
Steve Lzinski, the chairman of the Aerospace Village board, shared an exciting update on the activities and goals of the Aerospace Village for this year's DEFCON conference. The Aerospace Village is a global initiative bringing together volunteers from various backgrounds, including government, military, industry, academia, and security research. Their mission is simple yet ambitious: to build, inspire, and promote.
The primary goal of the Aerospace Village is to create trusting relationships between the government, industry, and hackers. They also aim to inspire the next generation of cybersecurity leaders and promote the outstanding work done daily to ensure the security of aerospace and space systems. DEFCON, being the largest event they support, is an ideal platform to achieve these goals.
This year, the Aerospace Village returns for its seventh edition with a multitude of exciting content on aviation and space. On the aviation side, they are bringing back "Bricks in the Air," a Capture The Flag (CTF) created by Embry Riddle students and supported by the Aviation ISAC. Partners like CTub, Intelligenesis, and Lockheed Martin will also be present. Darkwolf returns with his hands-on drone security demonstration, and a new partner, Spider, will address drone security concerns.
For space enthusiasts, a virtual CTF will be organized by Cowpali students. Ethos Labs will provide a Cubat simulator for a practical learning experience in operations and security. A new partner, GMO Brand Security, will come from Tokyo to discuss the security aspects involved in an international framework for satellite communications. Additionally, the Aerospace Village team has created a space-themed CTF with multiple rounds, culminating in a final on Saturday to determine who will win the bragging rights.
In addition to hands-on activities, the Aerospace Village will offer expert talks on the creator stage, covering topics such as aircraft security, air traffic control, and satellites. Adam and Robert, the creators of last year's badge, will also speak about their creation process. And for those interested, assembled badges will be available at DEFCON.
This year promises to be another activity-rich edition for the Aerospace Village at DEFCON. They are looking forward to meeting the participants and sharing their passion for aerospace and space security.
