The United States Department of Justice (DoJ) has indicted 12 Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in a vast conspiracy aimed at stealing data and suppressing freedom of expression and dissent on a global scale. Among the accused are two officers from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and eight employees of an ostensibly private PRC company, Anxun. The charges highlight a state-sponsored hacking operation aimed at targeting dissidents and stealing sensitive information.
