Duolingo-Inspired Cybersecurity Teaching App Developed for Master's Thesis
The author has developed an iOS application called SecureMind that teaches the basics of cybersecurity to the general public, inspired by Duolingo's learning approach. This app is part of their master's thesis and aims to study how mobile microlearning can motivate people to acquire cybersecurity knowledge. Users can voluntarily share their usage data to help evaluate the use of different features. The app organizes cybersecurity basics into chapters and sections, with assessments before and after each chapter to measure knowledge improvement. It also includes a library of learned content and cybersecurity news to encourage long-term knowledge retention. Two main gamification elements are integrated: the Security IQ system, which rewards users with points, and coins that can be spent to customize the app. The app's content is based on DiFü, supported by the German government, and has been reviewed by the author's supervisor.
