Is TryHackMe Premium Worth It for Beginners? A Cost-Benefit Analysis

TryHackMe is a popular online platform for learning cybersecurity through hands-on challenges. The student in question is considering purchasing the annual Premium subscription, which costs approximately $100, and is debating whether to buy now or wait for potential holiday discounts. TryHackMe is often recommended for beginners due to its structured learning paths and interactive approach. While it's true that many users transition to platforms like Hack The Box as they advance, TryHackMe offers content for various skill levels, making it a valuable resource throughout one's learning journey. The Premium subscription unlocks additional features, such as advanced rooms and offline machine downloads, which can significantly enhance the learning experience. For a beginner, the free version of TryHackMe provides ample content to start with, but Premium may be worthwhile for those committed to accelerating their learning. Regarding discounts, while holiday sales are common for many services, there's no guaranteed information about TryHackMe's discount schedule. Students on a budget might consider waiting for potential promotions, but if immediate access to Premium features is desired, purchasing now could be beneficial. Additionally, beginners should explore supplementary free resources, such as The Cyber Mentor's YouTube courses and OWASP materials, to build a well-rounded foundation in cybersecurity. Ultimately, the decision should balance cost considerations with the eagerness to begin and the commitment to consistent learning.
