The Chinese cyber espionage group Salt Typhoon is using custom malware called JumbledPath to spy on U.S. telecommunications providers. Researchers at Cisco Talos have discovered that this group, also known as FamousSparrow and GhostEmperor, is monitoring the network traffic of telecom operators in the United States. Active since at least 2019, Salt Typhoon poses a serious threat to the security of communication infrastructures. Potential impacts include the compromise of sensitive data and illegal surveillance. It is recommended that companies strengthen their security measures and monitor suspicious activities.
