Russian Hackers Target Signal and WhatsApp Accounts of Diplomats and Officials

Dutch intelligence agencies reported that Russian state-backed hackers are targeting Signal and WhatsApp accounts belonging to diplomats, military personnel, and government officials globally. The campaign also extends to journalists and individuals of interest to Moscow. Attackers employ phishing tactics to deceive users into disclosing verification codes and PINs protecting their messaging accounts. The operation does not exploit technical vulnerabilities in Signal or WhatsApp but relies on social engineering.
