German authorities identified 31-year-old Russian national Daniil Maksimovich Shchukin as the individual behind the "UNKN" alias, who led the ransomware groups GandCrab and REvil. Between 2019 and 2021, Shchukin was linked to at least 130 cyberattacks involving computer sabotage and extortion targeting victims in Germany.
