Internet-Exposed ICS Devices Pose Significant Risks to Critical Infrastructure
Internet-exposed industrial control systems (ICS) and insecure protocols such as Modbus elevate risks to critical infrastructure by enabling disruption, unauthorized data access, and potential sabotage. Malware targeting ICS, including Stuxnet, Industroyer, Triton, Havex, and BlackEnergy, has demonstrated capabilities to disrupt operations, cause outages, and inflict physical damage. These threats specifically impact sectors reliant on ICS and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. No specific dates, CVE IDs, or numerical exposure metrics were provided in the reported findings. The article highlights the ongoing vulnerability of critical infrastructure due to inadequate security measures in operational technology (OT) environments.
