Rockstar Games Confirms Data Breach by ShinyHunters
Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, confirmed a cyberattack claimed by the hacking group ShinyHunters, which accessed the company’s Snowflake environment and exfiltrated data. The attackers exploited Anodot, a third-party SaaS platform used for cloud cost monitoring, as the initial entry point, obtaining authentication tokens to access a connected Snowflake account without directly compromising Snowflake itself. ShinyHunters issued a "pay or leak" ultimatum following the breach. The incident did not involve a vulnerability in Snowflake’s infrastructure but relied on stolen credentials from the compromised third-party service. No specific data types, breach scale, or exact timeline were disclosed in the report.
