smart_tvIoThardwarenetworkproxysecurityprivacy
Spur Intelligence scanned 6,038 smart TV apps across LG webOS and Samsung Tizen platforms and identified 2,058 containing residential proxy software development kits (SDKs). On LG webOS, 42.5% of apps included such code, while Samsung Tizen had a 26.9% prevalence rate. These SDKs enable the devices to relay third-party internet traffic through users' home connections without explicit consent. The affected apps include common utilities like fish tank displays, clocks, and games. No specific dates or CVE identifiers were provided in the findings.
