Former U.S. Army Soldier Sentenced to 70 Months for Snowflake Customer Account Hacking and Extortion

Cameron John Wagenius, a 22-year-old former U.S. Army soldier, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for his role in hacking Snowflake customer accounts in 2024. The group he was part of stole data from more than 165 organizations that used the U.S. cloud storage company, including telecom companies such as AT&T. The attackers threatened to leak the stolen data unless victims paid ransom demands.
