A cybersecurity researcher tested Anthropic's Mythos 5.1 AI model (accessed through CVP with reduced guardrails) against a novel allocator vulnerability they discovered that dates back to 1987 and yields a new primitive escalation method for heap exploitation. The researcher provided the model with a detailed explanation without revealing the solution and engaged in multiple rounds of questioning, but the model was unable to identify the escalation path beyond the initial primitive, even with hints. The researcher concludes that while Mythos 5.1 is effective at finding known vulnerabilities, it struggled with completely novel attack vectors that aren't derived from stitching together existing techniques.
