Fake Alpine Quest Mapping App Spies on Russian Military Android Devices

A fake Alpine Quest mapping application containing spyware has been used to target Android devices of the Russian military, stealing location data. This malicious application was discovered in August 2023 and masqueraded as a legitimate hiking app. It exploited a vulnerability in Android devices to extract sensitive information, including the GPS coordinates of users. The impacts include the compromise of Russian military operations' security and the risk of leaking strategic information.
