PowerSchool Pays Hackers but School Districts Still Face Extortion

In December 2024, PowerSchool was the victim of a cyber attack. The company paid the hackers to delete the stolen data. PowerSchool then informed its affected clients that the data had been deleted. However, despite this payment, school districts that are clients of PowerSchool are now facing extortion attempts.
