Cybersecurity researchers have unveiled a global cryptocurrency phishing operation, dubbed FreeDrain, aimed at stealing digital assets over several years. This campaign leverages SEO manipulation and free web services such as gitbook.io, webflow.io, and github.io to create more than 38,000 malicious subdomains. Threat intelligence firms SentinelOne and Validin discovered this operation. The impacts include the theft of cryptocurrency wallet recovery phrases.
