Cybercriminals Infiltrate Rhode Island Public Benefits Portal, Deloitte Fails to Notice Alerts

In July 2024, a group of cybercriminals infiltrated the public benefits portal of the State of Rhode Island and remained within the network for five months. In November, the group transferred gigabytes of data from Rhode Island residents to their own servers, triggering hundreds of firewall alerts. Deloitte, the provider and manager of the RIBridges system, did not notice these alerts. Deloitte is a multinational firm valued at $67.2 billion.
