U.S. energy officials are reassessing the risks posed by Chinese devices essential to renewable energy infrastructure after discovering undocumented communication equipment inside some of them. Over the past nine months, undocumented communication components, including cellular radios, have been found in certain batteries from several Chinese suppliers. These components provide additional, undocumented communication channels that could allow remote bypassing of firewalls, with potentially catastrophic consequences.
