Researchers Discover New Vulnerabilities in Intel Processors
General
Researchers from ETH Zürich and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam have discovered two new vulnerabilities affecting almost all modern Intel processors. These flaws allow the reading of memory from other processes even when mitigation measures against Spectre, implemented since 2018, are active. One of the vulnerabilities, named Branch Privilege Injection (BPI), exploits what the authors call Branch Predictor Race. These discoveries reignite concerns related to Spectre v2.
