US Naval Ship Attacked by Squid in 1978
NavalIncidentsMarineLifeHistoricalEvents
In 1978, the USS Stein, a U.S. Navy ship, experienced a sudden failure of its anti-submarine sonar equipment while at sea. Upon returning to port and being placed in dry dock, engineers discovered deep scratches on the "NOFOUL" rubber coating of the sonar dome. Some areas were torn with tears up to four feet long. Claws were found embedded at the bottom of most of the scratches.
