FraudPublishingCrimeInternationalOperations
A ghostwriting scam has been uncovered, involving operations based in Texas and Pakistan, with estimated losses in the tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars. The victims, primarily American authors, were deceived by false promises of publishing best-sellers. In January, three individuals were indicted for defrauding elderly authors across the United States, making them believe that publishers and filmmakers wanted to turn their books into successes, resulting in a loss of nearly $44 million.
