A new ransomware variant called Anubis has been discovered with the ability to encrypt and permanently delete files. This ransomware features a "wipe" mode that irreversibly deletes files, even if the ransom is paid. Researchers from Trend Micro, Maristel Policarpio and Sarah Pearl Camiling, have described this threat as a "rare dual-threat." This functionality makes file recovery impossible, thereby increasing the severity of the attack.
