Researchers Discover New Methods to Disrupt Cryptomining Botnets

Cybersecurity researchers have described two new methods for disrupting cryptomining botnets. These techniques exploit the design of various common mining topologies to halt the mining process, according to a report published today by Akamai. The researchers developed two techniques by leveraging mining topologies and pool policies, allowing them to reduce the efficiency of mining operations. The methods include the use of "bad shares" and a tool called XMRogue.
