Cloudflare's Q2 2025 DDoS Report: Blocked Attacks Already Surpass 2024 Total

Cloudflare has released its quarterly report on DDoS threats for Q2 2025, revealing a significant increase in the number of blocked DDoS attacks. Notably, the number of attacks blocked in the first half of 2025 has already surpassed the total for the entire year of 2024. This trend underscores the escalating threat landscape that organizations face today.

DDoS attacks continue to be a prevalent threat, with attackers leveraging various means to overwhelm targeted systems with traffic. The surge in blocked attacks suggests an uptick in malicious activity. While the exact reasons for this increase are not specified in the report, potential factors could include the increasing accessibility of DDoS-for-hire services or the exploitation of new vulnerabilities.

From a technical standpoint, this increase may indicate that attackers are employing more sophisticated techniques or targeting a broader range of victims. It may also reflect the growing reliance on digital services, making DDoS attacks more impactful and thus more attractive to threat actors.

The broader cybersecurity landscape must adapt to this evolving threat. Organizations may need to invest more in DDoS mitigation solutions and ensure their incident response plans are up-to-date. The fact that Cloudflare has blocked millions of attacks highlights the critical role that such services play in maintaining the availability and integrity of online services.

For cybersecurity professionals, this report serves as a reminder of the importance of robust DDoS protection. It's essential to stay informed about the latest attack trends and ensure that defensive measures are in place. Regularly reviewing and updating DDoS mitigation strategies can help organizations stay resilient against these growing threats.
