Concerns After Letting Security Clearance Expire

The author has left the military environment and taken a five-year break, while keeping their certifications up to date, but their clearances have expired. With ten years of experience as an ISSO/ISSM (all DoD), a CISSP certification, a BS degree in Aeronautics, and some expired certifications (Security+, forensics, etc.), the author is starting to apply for jobs but finds that many require a clearance. The author wonders if they have disadvantaged themselves by letting their clearances expire and is even considering entry-level ISSO positions.
